How to Clean Venetian Plaster Walls

Venetian plaster is a decorative finish that adds character and charm to any room. To keep it looking its best, follow these steps to effectively clean your Venetian plaster walls:

  1. Prepare your work area by covering nearby furniture, flooring, or other surfaces with drop cloths. You will also need a bucket, water, mild detergent, and a soft-bristled brush.
  2. Mix equal parts of warm water and mild detergent in the bucket. Stir well to ensure the solution is clear and free from soap residue. Use vinegar or baking soda for a natural cleaner if preferred.
  3. Apply the cleaning solution gently to the wall using circular motions. Be careful not to scrub too hard as this can damage the plaster. Allow the solution to sit on the wall for five minutes to break down dirt and grime.
  4. Rinse the brush with clean water and gently scrub the wall again to remove any remaining cleaning solution. Once satisfied that the wall is clean, allow it to dry completely before applying new sealants or finishes.

According to interior designer Sarah Williams, regular maintenance can extend the lifespan of Venetian plaster and enhance its natural beauty. Avoid using harsh chemicals as they can damage the plaster and void any warranties in place. Clean your Venetian plaster walls every six months to keep them looking their best.
